data validation switched on or off based on contens of a different cell

    Hello,

I am trying to figure how to set up Data validation based on the content of a cell next to it and it should not be there when the conditions arent met

I am building a tool where i want to plan some resources for different projects and for each project we might need a project manager and a project assistant and a number of other positions. I only want the first to categories to be certain people from a predefined list, the rest have to be free text:

so for example project x needs 1 project manager PM , 2 assistants and 3 employees:

    column A column B
Project mngr data validation of the list of project managers
Assistant data validation of the list of assistants
Assistant data validation of the list of assistants
    administator free text
    facilities free text
    tech free text

    is that possible?

And even more crazy if a person has been picked he cannot be picked again (so you couldnt enter the same assistant twice).

I have been searching how to do this but havent found it

thanks in advance for any tips

I'm no pro, and i suspect there's a better way, but I think this covers the first half of your request...

Project MGR and Assistants are named ranges with your list of PMs and APMs. Right now it just triggers based on whether or not there is data in range D2:D22... It sounds like you may need to make that more specific - since you said some of your projects need this validation and others don't...

as for limiting duplicates... i'm not sure, but will keep trying.
