Disappearing links

I have a workbook with 10 sheets (but only 2 causing problem)

Worksheet 2 is linked to worksheet 1 as (for example Cell B18) contains

=spreadsheet1!B18

and so forth down the page

Spreadsheet 1 contains members of our club. Every so often members leave and so gaps form in the table rows.

What I want to happen is to remove the white space (rows) in between the names and the changes show up on worksheeet 2

What happens is
Whether I cut and paste or delete rows on worksheet 1, it removes the link in
worksheet 2 and causes a #REF error instead of just updating with the new info

Can anyone tell me how to achieve this

You can try using macros / vba. That way you wont have the formulae open on sheet2. Just a click of a button will copy / cut paste the values for you.
