Select only cells with specific content and copy with next cells to the right

Hi! I'm doing a statistics project that requires that I take a sampling from a population.

To make a long story short, I have two columns of about 3,000 cells, one with numbers and the next with words-a number is assigned to each word. I need to select only those cells in the number column with the symbol # in them, along with the cell directly to its right (the one with the word belonging to that number), and paste those values into a new set of two columns (which would be the sample.)

Does that make sense? What is the fastest way to do this? I tried making a macro, but it didn't work.... it's really wits' end now
