Question Help With Sorting By Date, Please

I have entered a lot of data in no particular order just from receipts, and now I'd like to sort them by date. I tried selecting the entire sheet by clicking on the upper left-hand corner, which did select the entire sheet, but then when I went to "Sort By Date," it deleted all my column headings. Help, please!

    Thanks,

    Dianne

Select everything without the headers and then sort.

I assume your dates are all in a single column? Otherwise, sorting them will not be easy.
Let's say your data (including headers) is in A1:H50
In the name box, (where you typically see the cell name (ie. A1), you can type A1:H50 and hit enter. It will select your entire range.
Then on the Home tab, Sort& Filter> Custom sort will bring up a sort window.
Make sure "My data has Headers" is checked and then grab the proper dropdown to sort by date.
    Does that help?

Other ways to select the range.
With the active cell in A1, Hold the CONTRL + SHFT and hit the right arrow, then the left arrow
It will go until it hits blank cells. if you have blank rows, just continue until your entire range is selected

Or, with the active cell anywhere in the range, CNTRL + SHFT + 8 will select what Excel thinks is the active range (blank rows or columns will screw this up)
