when i import a file the numbers column with commas some of them do not add up in sum

    when i import a file the numbers column with commas some of them do not add up in sum

    for sorting and analytical purposes i import a text file into excel. but when i do summations, some of the numbers do not add up
    i try to format them as numbers, still no use
    any help?

    formatting a cell does not change the data it it, all it does is change how it looks. to test if your cells are actually values, instead of text that juts looks like a number, test them with =isnumber(cell ref). or you can create a helper column...assuming your data is in column A, then in column B, copied down, type in A1*1. you can then either hide that column, or copy/paste values over itself, and then delete column A
