Best Practice: Entering more than one category for a cell

I am trying to find the best practice for entering more than one category for a cell. For example, say I have a set of companies that manufacture different types of things. I want to be able to capture all their business lines (shirts, pants, shoes, etc) and then be able to sort. I would like to be able to pull up all the companies that sell pants, for instance. I have attached a very simple example. What is the general best practice for doing this in Excel?

    G'day,

This is my view on how to categories. Use a filter.

    See attached for example.
