Cell Names/ranges not Saving...

I guess this is unusual, or im just being stupid! but i have a spreadsheet, and in it there is a Cell reference/name that shows up with NAs in name manager, each day i update the range in name manager and it works. I also notice the particular name does not show up in the cell reference dropdown box, but is listed in name manager.
Anyway, every day i save the spreadsheet, but have to go back in the next day and redo the range, why doesnt the cell reference save, i have tried setting up a new 'name/ref' and it also wont save.
The document promts to open as read only, but i have opened it without read only to no avail, i have also save the spreadsheet under a completely different filename using 'save as' again no joy. It is in excel 97-2003 but im using excel 2007. Its an intercompany document so im afraid to update the file type..
Id post the spreado but unfortunatly its almost 20meg and it contains sensitive data...
any help greatly appreciated!

Ive also noticed something else, i cannot move around tabs within the file, tabs are fixed in their position (theres about 40 tabs!). There is also a password to protect the file, is it possible its down to some sort of protection?

Unprotecting the workbook solved the tab moving point, but not the name/cell referencing issue...

have you checked to see if the sheet/cell protection is active as well?

Yes i've checked, there is no Protection on any Individual Sheet and the workbook is unprotected (aside from having to enter a password to open it)

really hard to offer any help if you cant upload the file (and i understand that you cant). have you tried to remove the P/W protection completely?

I feel Pretty dumb now! but yes i removed the 'open file' protection and that seems to have done the trick!
