Question Excel Tasks in Month switcher

    Hello,

I'm currently creating a master plan doc for my projects and I created a calender within it, though now I'm having the problem that when I want to switch to the next month or the previous one, I don't know how I can keep my data in those fields.

For example. I put something in the 25th of october, now if I want to go back to september and see what I did there I dont know how I can do that so that excel keeps "track" of the calenders history and future.

I'm farly new to Excel, I know some basics but no advanced stuff. I hope that its doable :S

Here is a screenshot of my calender so far (also I tried to highlight the weekends in color, but wasnt able to do that :S)

The attached file might be useful to you. Put a description and date for each event in any order in the Activities sheet, then on the Calendar sheet you can select the month and year using the drop-downs on cells K3 and K4 - the calendar will automatically put the activities in the correct place, with up to 7 events per day.

    Hope this helps.

Yea this is cool, so I need a second worksheet where i store the data. But the forumlars there are pretty complicated :S

I attached my file here, Is it possible to create such a system for my doc too ? I would need to enter certain letters into the calender (certain letters will stand for certain activities) and this gets saved onto the "activity sheet" then. Hope its not too hard to do hehe.

Thanks for your help so far Pete

ok so I tried to adapt this to my calender, but its not quite working and I cant see whats wrong with it. I noticed that he compared The date of the day and the "task" with the ones in the activites sheet. I copied the code in one of the calender cells over to a cell in my calender and modified it so that it fits the activities sheet (which is now called DB) and the cells for the date and task. Now if I write something in the DB task field (like an "a") it outputs a 0 in the calender.

A picture is not much use here, but the Excel file that you submitted earlier has no data in it and doesn't reflect your latest structure, so I'm not sure what you want to do. Please submit another Excel file which has some example data in it and which shows how you want this to be displayed on your calendar.

    Thx Pete,

I think I got it working now, its a bit complicated but will do. Best would have been if I would be able to enter data directly into the calender instead of the "database" sheet.

Anyway I was wondering how I can do it so when I got the list of 26 times 1th of October, how i can shrink the list down, and if I hit the + sign on the left the list gets expanded. I would have looked through google or something like that, but I dont know the name for that ^^ So I was hoping someone here could help me out

    Cheers

    Regards

    Patrick

Re: Excel Tasks in Month switcher

OK so I gotta change some stuff cos its not optimal.

What I would like to do is, that If I put data into the calender, it will take a reference number for the phase cells, the date and the location of the data i did put into the calender and saves it into a worksheet called DB. The phase cells need to have a locked reference number, so if i need to add another column or something like that, it cant change, otherwise other data will become wrong.

Though I tried to create a unique ID number for the phase fields where infos about the date are in for example: 432428_23102012

So for the calender for example, I add an a to the 7th of october, the field will colorize blueish and i will have a date viewer on the left site (Planned and Done) now when i filled in the 7th of october the fields shall change to Planned 7th october and Done to 7th october. If I know add 2 another a's (stands for activity) for that certain phase, for example on the 8th and 9th. the Done part will change to 9th of October.

Its pretty complicated and atm I just dont know how to approach it. It would be great if someone could give me a hint or help in the right direction

I'll attach the file here so you can get a better understanding of it

    Hi Pete

I am trying to use your file ef66_calendar_multi_lookup.xls‎ for my project but I can't seem to get it to work. Instead of Activities I want to use a data export from our reporting system. I would like the 3 pieces of data on the export to populate on the corresponding day in the calendar. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Darren

You should have a look at the Forum Rules at the top of the screen, in particular Rule 02 - you should not hijack a thread that someone else has started: start a new one yourself, with a link back to this thread if you feel it is relevant.
