Exclamation How to filter data at row level in Excel 2003

    Hi Experts,

I have a very simple question for the experts.

I want to apply a filer at row level. I am using excel 2003. Below is an example.

First Question: For Example in row 1, 1st column, I want to select a color from a color value range of 7 colors (VIBGYOR). How can I do this?

Second question If I can add any other value to this filter range. Eg if I want to add Purple and Lilac to the color value set, how can I do this?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Su.

For sure i am not an expert. So maybe that's why i am not following you.

Can you upload a small sample workbook for this?
    Regards

    Fotis.

Re: How to filter data at row level in Excel 2003

Sorry if I messed up with my wordings earlier.

I have attached the sample file.

In Row 2, Color field I want a filer box to appear with below colors in the list.

    Violet
    Indigo
    Black
    Green
    Yellow
    Orange
    Red

Secondly if I want to add any other colors at later point, how can I add up to my existing list.

    Hope this is clear now...:-)

Do you want a list with these words?

    Violet
    Indigo
    Black
    Green
    Yellow
    Orange
    Red

And as many as you want, OR do you need to fil the cell with the color that will choose?

I want a list of these words to appear so that I can just choose whatever value I want from the list.

Use Data validation coupled to a dynamic named range

    Hi Fotis,

This is what I am expecting exactly.

But this is a sample file. I have a huge original file that I need the filter to apply at row level.

Please advice how can I add filter for any row. So I can do myself...:-)

    Thanks very much in advance.

    Su.

    Got the answer myself....

Here is it for anyone who needs

Data-->Validation-->Select List in Allow, populate values in source separated by commas or select a range if you already have eg $A12:$A30
