Problems with XL spreadsheet created in XP and using under Windows 7

I have a rather complex spreadsheet originally created under XP. I've just purchased a laptop with W7 but I can't edit the spreadsheet on it. It takes ages to load up, then opens in read only mode, so I can't edit and save it. Excel stops responding and the whole thing just hangs on me. Any ideas as to what the issue might be. All suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks, Norman

Is there any difference in Excel version as well in ?
What File properties says? "Read Only" checked there ?
