Value from one cell to another line on another sheet Help needed on formula.

Greetings, an older man here trying to fit into the excel world and just cant seem to figure this out, i'll give my example problem area.

I am trying to take the projected cost value of (=F5*(1+0.03)^E5) and put it on another sheet (example: line 16 on a new sheet with 50 columns across to show years ) and line up the F5 value (year) and have the projected value showing up there.

If anyone is able to explain to me or point me in the correct direction for information that would be greatly appreciated.

Well, it would also help if you could post a sample workbook, so we can see how your data has been set out. The FAQ describes how in more detail, but essentially you click on Go Advanced while you are composing a reply, then you can use either the paperclip icon or scroll down to Manage Attachments, and follow the steps.

In terms of getting the value to line up with an appropriate column, the MATCH function will enable you to find the column number, but I think you would need a formula like this in column B (say):

=IF(Sheet1!F5=B$1,Sheet1!F5*(1+0.03)^Sheet1!E5,"")

which will then need to be copied across your fifty columns, but without seeing your workbook I'm just guessing.

Great thanks for the help again Pete, I'm slowly getting the hang of this. Never to old to learn I suppose.

Here is the example of what I am trying to do. The value of the future cost projected on Sheet 1 to the proper year on Sheet 2.

I'm not really sure what you want to show in sheet 2. Do you want to see the result of that formula ($125,004) in the column for year 31 (AF) ? Or, do you want to show how that initial $50,000 in column B grows each year until it reaches some other year?

Okay, I put this formula in B3 of Sheet2:

=IF(B$2=Sheet1!$E$5,Sheet1!$G$5,"")

then copied it across to cell AO3. It shows the value in cell AF3 (year 31), but if you change some of the values on Sheet1 then it will appear in a different cell.
