Copying and pasting many cells with Conditional Formatting.

I have many many cells in which to enter Conditional Formatting.

All I have been able to do is enter code into one cell at a time.

Am I able to copy and paste the conditional formatting into other 'many' cells, and have the 'new cells' be the one which contain the formatting, relative to each new cell?

I have tried the copy & paste, running a macro, dragging the cells, formatted many cells all at once - all without success.

I still have around 300 cells in which to enter conditional formatting and a good 5+ hours of shoulder aching data input.

am using the following formula - =isblank(cell)=false then format the range of cells required.

Any help appreciated.

try this...
before you go into CF, highlight the entire range that you want the CF to apply to, then go into CF and enter whatever you were using.

an alternate to this is, once you enter the CF main (1st) screen, on the right, you will see "applies to". you can adjust/change your CF range there too

if this doesnt work, perhaps it would be easier to help you if you uploaded a sample workbook, showing what data you are working with, a few examples of what your expected outcome would be, and how you would arrive at that (remove any confidential info if necessary).

To Attach a File:

1. Click on Go Advanced
2. In the frame Attach Files you will see the button Manage Attachments
3. Click the button.
4. A new window will open titled Manage Attachments - Excel Forum.
5. Click the Browse... button to locate your file for uploading.
6. This will open a new window File Upload.
7. Once you have located the file to upload click the Open button. This window will close.
8. You are now back in the Manage Attachments - Excel Forum window.
9. Click the Upload button and wait until the file has uploaded.
10. Close the window and then click Submit.
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you

FDibbens, here's a sample.

Please enter an 'X' in the first column. When the X is inserted, the other cells in that column become formatted.

I had to format each of the three cells in that column to get this to happen.

I want to be able to copy across to the other columns. But only format the relative column the X is in.

thanks.

Hello Slyman,

Please remove "$" sign from your conditional Formula
e.g.

Please Login or Register to view this content.
then copy range C3:C5 and paste in D3

Thanx Mohan, what you supplied works.
Unfortunately in this instance, I do have other cells which share the same cell I want formatted and it doesn't work when that's the case.

A clean spreadsheet works fine, but the actual spreadsheet I am using has multiple cells which can format one cell.
