    leading Zero

    Hello -
I am using Excel 2007 to format some data to then upload into a different database. I need to format numbers in certain columns to have leading zeros's for a total of 10 digits to the number. The original number could have any length of digits to start with. I have been using the formula =Text(a1,"0000000000") but then when I convert to a number the zeros disappear. I then have been using the custom formatting tab and putting in "00"# or which ever length of the zero's that I need. The custom tab does what I want (keeps the leading zero's) except it is very time consuming. Is their a quicker way of accomplishing this?

    Thank you in advance.

    Re: leading Zero

Why do you need to convert it to a "Number" format, after using the =text formula?

    Re: leading Zero

After you run this text formula in a cell and then go back and highlight the cell the number in the command line does not have the leading zero's in it. Also, the location that we are uploading to does needs the leading zero's included.
