Copy paste cells containing formulas w/o the destination cells in formulas changing.

I'm very new to Excel, so bear with me. I want to copy a pair of cells, C2 and D2. D2 contains the simple formula, =C2*B2. I would then like to paste this pair of cells in the next two columns over (E2 and F2) while still retaining the destination cell (in the formula) that was not copied (B2). Confused yet? So my desire, then, is that the formula in F2 would automatically change to =E2*B2. Instead, both destination cells are transposed leaving me with the incredibly tedious task of changing one of the destination cells every time I copy paste this pair. Moreover, I would like to accomplish this concerning the entire column

In other words, I want B2 in the formula to always be B2, no matter where I paste copied cells (C2 and D2). Does that make sense? I've included an example of what I'm shooting for.

    Thanks!

Also, I don't think I'm properly using the term 'destination cell'. And for that I apologize.

    Hi Rixonomic,

You need to use $ in front of the column reference to make it absolute, so that you keep using eg column B when you drag/copy the formula. So

Wow, works perfectly! I knew it had to be something simple, but I never would have discovered that on my own. Thank you so much!

Glad to help. You can use the $ sign to make the row, the column, or both of them absolute, depending on your needs, but you're right - it's hardly something one is likely to "stumble" across

I was having the same problem, and this worked great for me! Thanks!
