    Filtering Problem

    Hi all,

My problem is has to do with a filtering of a table like the following. When I filter column "3" for AAA the result is "Child-AAA." Is there a way to filter in a way where the "Parent" of the child also shows up??? I will have many children from different parents. I'm looking for a way to filter for child but have the parent also be visible.

    Thank you in advance!

Hi. It would be helpful if you can post a sample table to look over. That would also make it easier to show you the solution.

I'm really not sure what you want. I made up a little sample table for you. Kindly populate it a bit, put in any other columns you need, and write out clearly what you want to be able to do. Thx

    Re: Filtering Problem

    student (1).xlsx

    Thanks for your response!

    I've attached the populated table.

Now I've filtered for C students. But the problem is the C-students parents are hidden. Keeping the format of the table, is there a way to Filter for C grade students but still see the parents of that C student child.

    What do you think?

    Re: Filtering Problem

You mentioned earlier about children from different parents. I took that to mean step-parents, half-siblings, etc. Therefore your table structure should probably include a seperate column for each parent (ie, mother and father). You seem to have populated the parent just for the first child in the family, and then you left the other children in the family with the parents column blank. It would be better to populate all columns with the appropriate data, not leaving cells blank. All you're trying to do here is make a good table structure, that's the key to getting the result you want.

    Re: Filtering Problem

Hi Jim, thank you for your responses. Very appreciated.

However, would you know of a way to make "parent" visible without your table edits?

Unfortunetly i would have to keep the table as is. So I've been looking for a workaround with the original table...

    Thanks again!

    Re: Filtering Problem

Hi. Leaving your structure the same, still, the best solution is to populate the fields that you've left blank in your table. For each child in your table you should have the parent field populated with the name of the parent (and not left blank). Populating your table is the easiest solution. Is this table extremely large?
