Linking data - coping with a sourcefile name change

    Good Afternoon,

I am pulling data from a workbook but the name of the source file keeps changing with the date. (Ex. ABC 10-12-12) Is there a way to deal with this other than updating the link everyday?

I can't avoid the fact that this name needs to change. I know, it seems reasonable but isn't' when you look at how this affects the workflow of others.

    Thank you for your help.

    -Todd

    TKS,

Would saving a copy of the file, with the filename used in your formulas, be any more/less convenient than changing the formula each day? Just a thought....
    Brendan.

Perhaps you could use a formula like this for the file name as the "TODAY" function will give you todays date.

Please Login or Register to view this content.
this should give you a file name "ABC 11-07-12.xlsx"

You will have to play around a bit with the "MM-dd-yy" part as I had some problems getting it to work i.e. Scandinavian formate is "yy-mm-dd" but only after setting it as "yy-MM-dd" did it work properly. Why "MM" works instead of "mm" i don't know but using "mm" I got "00" insted of "11" for the month.

So if if any value is changed into "00" insted of the proper value try to change the letter to capitals.
