TRULY locking a row or column

I have looked all over for some guidance on how to TRULY lock a row or column. All I am finding is tutorials on how to freeze rows or columns. The problem is that I want to keep my row headings in place after sorting the data from A to Z. Freezing the columns only freezes the top row but does not "TRULY" lock it or freeze it in place when I reorder the data. Any advice will help. Thanks!

    erisaaka,

Is there perhaps an option in Excel 2003, when you select Custom Sort, to indicate that your data has headers? That would leave them in place. (It's been a while since I used E2003, so I'm not sure if that's only a feature of later versions.)
    Brendan.
