CountIF returning results to multiple cells

I'm looking for some help when using CountIF to inspect one column of data and return results to multiple cells. Here is an example

Column A
DU
DU
SU
RU
UR
UR
SU
DU
UR

I would like the results to tell me how many times each of the above was found.

...................B..............C
Row 15........DU..............3
Row 16........UR..............3
Row 17........SU..............2
Row 18........RU..............1

Is this possible with CountIF or do I need to be looking at another formula all together.

I see that you have created 4 countIF statements for each result but my question is more about putting all of them into one single argument. Perhaps I should be using something other than CountIF????

Actually, I think seperate CountIF statements (one for each letter combination) will get me what I need.
