Duplicate date 3 times for a full year in one column

Is it possible to duplicate each day by 3 in 1 column for a full year

Example:

1/1/2012
1/1/2012
1/1/2012
1/2/2012
1/2/2012
1/2/2012
1/3/2012
1/3/2012
1/3/2012

All the way down to 12/31/12

in a1 to a3 put the date say 1/1/2012
in a4 put = a1+1
drag down a4

.....how do i keep the format? when I drag down it removes the cell format

Apply the format to row 2,3,4 using the format painter...when you drag row 4 down, the format should copy with it
