Excel 2007 - How to sort results of previous sort without changing data order

Sorry if that was not clear. i have monthly report from CRM that needs to be sorted by customer, then sorted by date while maintaining customer groupings.

I have tried sorting by name, then by date, but I end up with names grouped in order A-Z, and dates within groups of the same name sorted oldest to new. What I really need is data sorted by date with all like customer names grouped together and sorted by date within the like customer names.

I have attached example of before and desired results. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

    Hi,

Your 'desired' sheet results is of course only a subset of your data. In addition it's not sorted either by data, or name so I'm not clear how you have arrived at the order.

If you sort your data by name first and then date you do get the order you're looking for, although of course since you're sorting your original 234 rows it doesn't look like your desired subset of 57 rows.

But if you look down the sorted list you do find all your desired results in the same relative positions.

Re: Excel 2007 - How to sort results of previous sort without changing data order

Update - I tried the following...
    1. Sort the data by Name.
    2. Data - subtotals, at change in Name use Min of Expires.
    3. Collapse data so only subtotals visible.
    4. Select and sort by Delivery date
    5. Remove subtotals.

After subtotal when trying to sort by expires date.....subtotal data remained in alpha form and did not sort by expires date.

Not sure what I did, but after trying above steps numerous times it finally sorted the subtotals by date, and then I removed all subtotals and got the desired results. Thanks for the boards time and assistance.

    Hi,

Well that was the first time you'd mentioned 'subtotals'.
It's always important to mention all conditions or factors when you pose a question otherwise we all spend time answering a question which isn't relevant.

I apologize for the confusion... I was searching for solutions while waiting for the boards help ,and came across another thread that was similar to mine. I just wanted to post what ended up working. Thanks again for your time and help!
