SUMIFS with 1 criteria range, multiple criteria with cell references

I am using a sumifs function with multiple criteria ranges and criteria. If one of the criteria ranges has the possibility of 2 criteria i am using the following:

    =SUMIFS(B:B,C:C,{"Unit1","Unit2"},D:D,e4,E:E,f4)

I want to replace the text references Unit 1 and Unit 2 to a cell reference....however I cannot figure out how...

    perhaps
=SUMIFS(B:B,C:C,{"Unit1"},D:D,e4,E:E,f4) + SUMIFS(B:B,C:C,{"Unit2"},D:D,e4,E:E,f4) then in that case you can just replace the text with cell reference.

Thanks, I can do that, but I was trying to shorten the formula if possible. Was hoping that the text in quotes inside the curly brackets could be changed to cell references...

    try:

    or,

where G1:G2 is the range where Unit1 and Unit2 reside.

with SUMPRODUCT, it is always advisable to use definite ranges (such as C1:C1000), instead of full-column ranges (such as C:C); there is significant improvement in performance that way.

CSE, aka Array aka { }, formulae are confirmed with CONTROL+SHIFT+ENTER.
Replace commas ( , ) with semicolons ( ; ) in formulae, if your locale setting demands.
