If a cell equals X, then format that many cells for input?

Hello, this is my first post but I have used this forum for regular viewing.

I am having trouble with a spreadsheet I am making for March Madness lol, I know, it's early but we have a ton of participants! I would like to ask individuals how many participants there are. Then, after they enter the number, I want Excel to create that many fields for input and to format the rest of the sheet to accomodate each name entered. I know it's vague but it seems like it'd be simple, only I'm a noob at Macros and Excel.

    Thank you guys!

    Welcome to the Forum!

Can you attach a workbook that shows what you want it to look like for, say, two people ("that many fields for input")? And point out the part you want repeated for the actual number of participants ("the rest of the sheet")? And how is this data going to get entered? It might not require macros; this might be feasible with a table, for example.

Thanks. I left notes in the spreadsheet. I figured everything out except this portion.

I really appreciate the help and view!!

I have attached a solution [ppjn348=Bracket help.xlsx] that doesn't use macros. You don't need to know the number of participants in advance; you just enter the names. However, you would need to know the maximum possible number of participants. I set it up for up to 100.

I am not sure how your point system works. I didn't do much testing. Let me know if something doesn't work.

I'm on my iPhone now and will check in the morning. As for points, I had that set up already. I needed help setting up the participants portion. Thanks.

Thanks I figured it out after thinking about it. I'll just use if statements for the names and base that on whether or not the bracket will allow for an entry.
