Condensing a list into singe entries for an overview.

I'm working on a very large set of data which often lists individuals multiple times. I would like to make a separate sheet that gives a general overview of the data, with each individual listed only once in the first column, with other columns giving sums of various pieces of data listed line by line on the original sheet.

Is there a way to automatically take the contents of column A and have Excel spit out a list of all names where each is listed only once?

I have, but a lot of the columns are inconsistent as far as blank cells, different formats for text re: procedures, etc.

I'm not an expert in pivot tables by any means, but it seemed to me that given the data, the kind of overview I want would be more easily achieved by getting the aforementioned single-entry list and then using COUNTIF(S) for most of the summaries.

If there isn't a quick easy way to get there the way I'd like, I'll have to delve more into pivots and probably make a new topic, hoping someone has a work-around though.
