    Question Data Connections Problem

    Hello Everybody,

So I have encoutered a problem with the Data Connections in excel.... Let me give you a little background to better understand the problem. Everyday I run a process that creates a file with the current date for example karagill120512.txt. I have to import this file everyday into an excel template. I am trying to automate this process.. So what I wanted is when I opened up my spreadsheet it would automatically import the file without having to pick the file. The way I did this way when I was setting up the data connections I used an excel formula karagill=TODAY(). It worked beautifully but the next day when I opened the spreadsheet is says it cannot locate the file..... How do I get this to work everyday without having to edit the query? Any ideas or help on this would be GREATLY appreciated!!

    Hi

Havent tried it so I dont know if it will work for txt files if you save an excel worksheet to XLSTART on the C drive microsoft office>office14>XLSTART files in that folder will start automatically with excel perhaps that may be a workaround for you.

    Chris,

Thanks for resonding... When I test the data connections it works fabulous the problem is the next day when I open the spreadsheet it doesn't seem to work. Which is what I do not understand. How can it work one day but not the next?

    Re: Data Connections Problem

    Hi

No worries I have the same excel file that I use every day so I saved the file in the above folder XLSTART so now when I open excel my spreadsheet opens automatically with excel start up I dont have to select it and Im just thinking that if you save your file to that folder it may be imported into excel automatically when you open excel.

    Re: Data Connections Problem

Yea but I dont think that will work in the end because I would have to save that file everyday... I am trying to completly automate the process so all I have to do is open the template make sure all the data populated and send it the appropriate party... Keep in mind I do this multiple times a day.... So I really want to do this thru the data connections. I have written a macro to automatically import without selecting the file but I still have to push a button.. I do not want to have to do anything I hope that makes sense...

    Re: Data Connections Problem

okay so from playing around with it I have found that it is looking for the current date of when I set up the data connection. It does not know to look for the current date.... Anyone have ideas on how to fix this???
