Why Does The Function Bar Show Date in 4 Digits Vs 2 Digits

When I format a cell to show only the last two digits of the year;why does it show all four digits in the function bar when the cell is highlighted?I've been told that because there are four digits showing in the function bar, this will create an error when the info is input into a master spreadsheet.

    Hi again,

You will need to give us an example on this. To attach a sample file, click on "Go Advanced" below the message area and then on the Paper Clip Icon above the Advanced message area.

    Date Formatting.xlsx

Highlight a cell in column one and note the difference between the formatting in the cell and the date listed in the function bar. I've been told that this discrepancy will cause an error in the macro of the master sheet when my info is uploaded.

    Hi,

Dates are stored as numbers and you are really seeing just a different display of those numbers. I'd think the person who told you this, just doesn't know.

Read http://www.ozgrid.com/Excel/ExcelDateandTimes.htm and tell them how they are wrong.
