Filtering

When you sort, even if you are sorting on only one column, you have to select the entire worksheet or the other columns will not line up with what you have sorted. When you filter do you have to select the entire worksheet - or do you just click filter and then click in the column you want to filter by? I also need some guidance for how to filter. I used to be intermediate with Excel but I've been away for a while. Thanks.

normally it will select all columns - up to the 1st empty cell in a column.

when you select filter, you will see a little pulldown at the top of each column. if all of the columns that you are working with do not have 1, then you do not have the entire range. remove the filter, highlight the range and re-apply the filre
