Sorting column by date

Hi,
I was wondering if somebody could point me in a good direction on sorting a column that contains dates. When I select the column to sort it A-Z I get the result posted in the attached workbook. There are columns on both sides of the date that are sorted (expanded selection when clicking sort). Is there an easy way to get the dates to sort without some fancy code or macro?

Hi smugglersblues,

Do you need only the dates to be sorted (leaving other columns untouched)?
If yes, you need to select the column and do the sort (without expanding selection) or I am missing something here

Re: Sorting column by date

I need the sort expanded. But for what ever the issue is, it sorts it as you can see in the workbook. I didn't post the actual file I'm trying to sort on because it's not my file to post. Any ideas?

Re: Sorting column by date

Looking at your file, I dont see a problem with the sort? the dates you have bolded are 2013, while the 1's above are 2012. what result were you expecting?
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)

If you need the sort expanded, then either select all columns OR choose expanded selection when excel gives the pop option for that.. should be simple.

Re: Sorting column by date

Sometimes the solution is right in front of you but you can't see it. The column with dates is formated as 1/16 (example). I converted the column to the format 01/16/13 (example). I didn't catch the year because I was looking at day/month lol. But now I understand why my dates aren't sorting properly... somebody put the wrong year in the column. Problem solved
