For a school project I'm attempting to develop a crude system to for determining my location along a single axis (the street I live on) based on wireless networks. I've already collected a series of data points, at each point approximately evenly spaced out (based on house address) I logged every viable wi-fi network, my overall groal is to take a reading without an address, and then find which known entry it matches the most closely.
I have unique identifiers for each network (MAC addresses), now I need some way to match the known and unknown data sets- the method of doing this I envision is to assign each known entry 1 point per matching MAC address, find the total number of points per entry and then say the location with the most matching MAC addresses is the correct location. Is there a reasonable way of doing this, or should I look into some alternate method?
Thanks,
