Help. Number text separated by commas in Notepad trying to properly paste in Excel.

I have a string of numbers separated by commas in Notepad that I'm trying to properly text into Excel, but it is not pasting properly.

Here is an example of the Notepad data I'm trying to paste in Excel:

    357997040159283,74279793
    357997040281905,26294605
    357997040717429,57946372
    357997040557221,15172913
    357997040755049,

(I'm attaching a screenshot of the data because it is not showing properly above to give you an idea.)

When I paste it in excel, it all goes into one column and each column has the string of numbers looking like this:

    35,799,704,015,928,300,000,000

    OR THIS:

    3.57997040159283E+22

How can I just have the text (numbers) show up as they appear broken up by commas. I want the first cell to have these numbers:
    357997040159283

    Hope this made sense.

    Thanks in advance.

    1. Save your notepad file as "codes.csv" and choose 'all files(*'*)' in save as type.
    2. Open the codes.csv file with excel
    3. Select all cells and format to numbers with no decimal places

    Hope this helps

I took your sample and put it in a notepad file. I then imported (not cut and pasted) the file into Excel using delimited specifications. I set the numbers in each column to number format. It worked for me.

Re: Help. Number text separated by commas in Notepad trying to properly paste in Excel.

Thank you so much for the suggestions. I now was able to get the data into two columns in excel. My problem is now that the second column is not properly showing the last number. Below is some of the numbers. The ones in red are in the second column. Instead of the last number (in each of the cells in the second column) showing the last number, it changes it to a zero.

So for example the number: 5901316978431419

    Shows up as either: 5.90132E+15

    OR: 5901316978431410

The "9" turns into a ZERO. It changes into a Zero even when I format the column into a Custom Format and put in 16 zeros (since I have 16 digits in each of my cells in my second column).

Hope I'm not confusing you guys by my explanations

Set the column data format to text instead of number.

Thank you all very much. I did as you said and before pasting any data in a new spreadsheet, I set two columns as text format and then it worked like a charm.

Thank you all for your replies.
