    count indifferent names between date ranges

    this is hard to explain but I will do my best.

    column A has names, column B has the day they worked. Column D & E has the week beginning and week ending.
    I need to know how many people worked during each week.

    Like I said it's hard to explain so I will post an example of what I am looking for.

    Put this formula in G3:

    Formula: copy to clipboard

    then copy down to the bottom of your list of weekly dates.

    Hope this helps.

    Try this, since you are using Excel 2003:

    Enter in cell G3 and fill down:

    =SUMPRODUCT(($B$3:$B$15885>=D3)*($B$3:$B$15885<=E3))

    - Moo

    * Also - your list doesn't factor in 12/18/2011 thru 12/31/2011, during which time there were 8 entries for employees working.

    an employee name may be listed several times in a week. and I can't count that name more than once.
    I am trying to put together how many "different"people worked in a weekly period. so i cannot count the same name more than once in a week.

    try ARRAY-entered in cell F3:

    CSE, aka Array aka { }, formulae are confirmed with CONTROL+SHIFT+ENTER.
    Replace commas ( , ) with semicolons ( ; ) in formulae, if your locale setting demands.
