    Automatically populate empty cells.

I know that title is not very descriptive but here's my issue.

I currently have a spreadsheet with over 200,000 lines. Let's say I have 4 columns titled Account Name, Date, Description, and Amount. The Account Name column is only populated for the first entry in each group. In order to properly manipulate the data I'll need the account name to be populated in every cell. I am not about to click and drag each one as it owuld probably take me hours.

There's got to be a better way? Possibly a simple macro at least?

    Any help is appreciated.

Last July there was a competititon on the Forum for Hints and Tips, and my submission came second. It describes an easy way to fill data in the situation you describe, and here's a link to it:

A bit of Excel magic !!

    Hope this helps.

That was awesome. Worked liked a charm. Now I don't have to go and ruin an intern's day.

Happen to have a link to that competition? I'm guessing there might be some more pretty helpful hints in there.

I don't know where all the submissions went to, but I got to that one by clicking on the Winner Board at the top of the screen - it has links to the top 3 submissions.

    Hope this helps.
