    Change the format of cells

    Hi Guys,

Not sure if this will be explained clearly, but here goes..

I have exported a report from an online tool into Excel. The end goal is to compare the Actual Margin to Budgeted Margin in both $ and % - that's my first problem. All I can really think of is a simple bar/column chart comparing them. If anyone knows any fancy ways to show this please let me know.

This exported report has pre-set formatting. So for example the $ values for the Actual and Budgeted Margin are shown as $359,000 or -$6,350. I am unable to translate this into a graph. Am I just being silly? if not how do I change the format to be just 359,000 and -6,350? I've tried the obvious 'format cells' but it does not change.

    Can anyone help?

try find replace $ with nothing
then put 0 in a spare cell
    copy
select the values where you just replaced $
    paste special/add
