Comparing Two Rows And Highlighting Different Cells

    Hello Excel Gurus,
I would appreciate if i could get some tips on a validation exercise:

i have data in 2 rows with few cells having different values. I want to compare the two rows and highlight the cells with differences.

Example: In the data below, cells B1 and B2 with value 45 & 46 would be highlighted since the 2 cells differ in value in 2 rows. Same would apply for C1 and C2.

    Image.png

    A B C D
    1 A345 45 2/7/2012 Name
    2 A345 46 1/7/2013 Name

    Thank you!!

    Highlight the cells you want to check and ssing Conditional formating;
    Select New Rule
Select Format only unique or duplicate values
Change drop down box to unique
    Click Format box
Select fill tab, pick a color and press ok,
    Press ok.
This should highlight the differences between the two rows.

    Thanks, Swhitesell.
I had tried using that but for some reason the unique value conditional formatting does not work for few cells - i assume something with the datatype of these cells. If there an alternate method? I tried using IF Statements but with no success. Thanks!

Can you post the spreadsheet you are using? It may be possible to use a statement like =B1=B2 which will return a False if the cell values are different.

Here's a solution to this. I couldn't get the conditional formating on the rows themselves to work.
But using a seperate formula on the row below, I could highlight the columns to examine.

    Sample(Solution).xlsx
