    Sorting/filter column

    Hi,

I've got a column of values.

    Apple
    Apple
    Orange
    Peach
    Apple
    Orange
    Peach
    Pear

Values in this column get added and removed over time, the goal is to summarize the data in a different work book sheet so it ends up looking like:
    Apple 3
    Orange 2
    Peach 2
    Pear 1

    Counting is easy using a

function but I don't know how to dynamically sort the list.

    Hi,

A pivot table would filter, sort and count, all without using any formulas.

Is it possible to make it grow as I add entries?
Lets say (heaven forbid) I add Durian to my list? It doesn't seem to extend my list.

Thanks so much for the help, I've never bothered to use pivot table till this point.

    Re: Sorting/filter column

    Hi,

I showed how to do this a few weeks ago with the attached. You will need a Dynamic Named Range that spans your data so it can grow or shrink. Then you will need to base your Pivot Table on this name. Then you will need an Event Macro that refreshes the Pivot if/when data in the table changes. See the attached for the example. Be Careful - you may need to learn a few things to accomplish your request.
