Excel 2007 Not Displaying Dates Correctly

I have put together a table and graph in Excel 2007 to show test results on given dates, the table data has been formatted as follows:
Date column has been formatted as "Date" and Result column has been formatted as "Number".

The problem I am having is the dates on the graph are not appearing as they are in the input table shown on the left.

I can alter the result fields and the graph automatically adjusts accordingly but nothing I change in the Date column changes when I edit the dates.

Perhaps entering these as date fields is not the right way to go??

I have tried formatting that column as text and likewise with the horizontal axis but this doesn't work either

I'm sure someone on here has come across this problem before

    Many thanks

    Gary

    Hi Gary,

Excel wants to change your axis to be weeks apart, you have set the start and end dates as min and max axis options and set the base unit to days. The major unit is 7 days so your dates are a week apart, try setting the axis options all to auto that may correct it.

Also worthy to mention that if if you chart is too small the axis points will be grouped, I'd suggest placing it it's own sheet. Whilst working on it you can use the new windows option under view to create a secondary view of the workbook, helps a lot if you are working on various sheets in the same workbook. Just close it when you are done.

A day with nothing new achieved or learned, albeit however small, is a day lost forever?

Hi there and thanks for your quick reply

I've tried that and that doesn't have the desired effect. Basically all I want it to do is display the same dates as in the input table, I'm not fussy on how it's done, it just needs to display those dates.

    Never mind, sorted it myself

Just went back to the input table and formatted the column with the dates as a text field and entered the dates as "16th Jan 12" rather than "16/01/12" which seemed to be causing Excel to perform a calculation even though the cells are formatted as text only, which makes no sense to me but obviously did to some dimwit at Microsoft lol

You can now close this thread if you wish

    Thanks for your help
