Word can import an Excel Sheet, but can Excel import a Word sheet

I know it is easy to import an Excel spreadsheet into a Word document but can you do this in reverse.

I have a large Excel workbook which has a dedicated section on seperate tabs where notes are written in text.

There are a number of pages within this tab which are set out side by side.

The problem I have is that when a cell has a large amount of text and the row height increases to wrap the text, the whole row expands which is definitely what I want. However, when this happens if the cell in say page 2 or 3 has only a small amount of text, it looks wrong for presentation purposes if the row height is expanded by its neighbouring cell. This then creates large spaces between statements and looks very wrong.

If you can import a Word page into Excel, then I would be able to set up the Word part with tables which would then expand for their own purpose but not necessarily affect the next page.

    My question is therefore simple.

Can you import Word into Excel - if so how?

If not tell me that also and I will have to find another method of controling the text section.

    Regards.

Have you tried using a Text Box?

    Copy data from Word Doc
    On the Ribbon,
    Insert Tab
    Select Text Box
    Draw a box
    Paste into Excel Text Box

    OR

    There is also Insert Object
    On the Ribbon,
    Insert Tab
    Select Insert Object
Select the Create from File Tab
Browse to file location, select file.
    Click OK

Thanks for the idea, I am not sure if it will work like I would like but its worth a try.

Certainly the text box doesn't do what I want but the insert object does allow a Word document to be brought in and that is worth the investigation.

It will however take some playing about with till it comes right.

Here are a couple of more methods that you might find of interest:

You could also use the =HYPERLINK() function to access the Word document
and using "Bookmarks" within the Word doc you can even =HYPERLINK() to a specific page.

Example, if you added a Bookmark on Page #2 in your Word document such as XXX

Then a formula such as: =HYPERLINK("C:\Users\Name\Documents\MyDocument.docx#XXX","My Link")

Note the Pound Sign # followed by the Bookmark
This will open to the page where you set your XXX bookmark
It is supposed to work with Page numbers, but I have never been
able to get it to work. I know the Bookmark method will work.

A second, rather esoteric way, would be to use the Comment Field.
Although you could just copy & paste like a Text Box, a more
interesting way is to convert the specific page in your Word document
into a PNG or JPG file and then insert the picture into the Comment Field.

Then the user will only see the page if they mouse over the cell
and you can control the size of the pop-up comment window.

If your using Win 7, a simple method would be:
Open your Word doc to the specified page,
On the View Tab, select "Full Screen Reading"
    Without closing your word file:
    select Windows Start,
    select All Programs,
    select Accessories,
    select Snipping Tool

Now, use the Snipping Tool to select the
whole page or parts of the page you want to
display, and save it with a unique name.

    Now, open your Excel file:

First, add a comment to the cell, but remove any text.
Next, right click the border of the comment box and select Format Comment.
Next select the Color and Lines tab.
From the drop down box labeled Color, select Fill Effects
    Select the Picture Tab,
then browse for to your picture location.
Double click on your picture and re-size as needed.
