    Can i get results using a pivot table

    Hi, i have enclosed a data file in excel to help explain what i want.

    Basically, i have a file where i want to create an output table. This output table would have like a toggle switch where i can select a certain value and then the table would update based on this value.

    in the example file .......i have a sample data-table........from this table i want to create another table. In this "other table" there would be a toggle as i described above based on the "Split_Variable" colulmn. The data in the remainder of the table goes something like this.......For Header1 sum up the entries in that column that appear within the month/yr listed in column A. It might be helpful to look at the file.

    i was thinking of using pivot table but i am nto sure how.........

    any thoughts?

    With an pivot table.

    See if this is what you're up to.

    I used groups to show the data.

    Re: Can i get results using a pivot table

    jaren = years

    I though you could figure this out by the data.

    Click in the pivot table => right mouse click => Group

    Now your able to select month and years

    Re: Can i get results using a pivot table

    fotis1991,

    i kinda figured out i could use a "countifs" type function to generate the table.

    I cant enclose the final file as i did the actual work onthe file with real data.

    But fotis you put me on the right track..........

    thanks to both of you for your help
