Active X combo box - linked cell reference is lost after I save, close and re-open workboo

I am new to using these controls. Using the developer tab I inserted an Active X combo box. Under properties I referenced a 'linked cell' that I want the data to appear in. This box works great as long as I keep the sheet open. Once I save and close the workbook and re-open, that reference is lost. It shows #REF! in that field. Why does it lose the reference? I have tried to reference a cell on the same sheet as well as a cell in a different sheet and it keeps the sheet name but not the individual cell. Any advice is welcome.

What exactly did you set the LinkedCell to?

At first, I set the linked cell to C26 and it was lost after saving workbook and re-opening it.
Then I set it to 'sheet name'!C26. It was lost again. Both work as long as I don't close the workbook.

Is there anything else in the workbook, eg code, that could affect the linked cell or control?

I don't know what an eg code is, so if there is one there, I didn't insert it.

Do you have any other suggestions?

The only think I can think of causing the problem would be if there was some code that was running when the workbook opened, or perhaps at another point, that
affected the linked cell or the combbox itself.

Thank you for the combo box. Yours works good.
I have a question. How do you input the cell in that field?
Do you type it in? Do you actually select the cell by clicking on it?
Then how do you save the properties for that combo box?
I have just been x ing out and then getting out of design mode.

I select the combobox, right click and select Properties.

Then in the Properties sheet I just type in the reference in the LinkedCell field and then exit design mode.
