Pull out information from main sheet to summary sheet

    Hey,
I am trying to create a summary sheet from the matrix to do further analysis. I want to pick out the welds done everyday with weld inches as you will see in the summary sheet. How can summary sheet be automatically updated when I enter the inspection date rather than copying and pasting? I can use vlookup to get the weld dia once I get the weld numbers on that date. I have attached the file.

Thank you for your help in advance.

Have you try to use a pivot table? i turned your whole spreadsheet into a pivot table. play around with the fields at the bottom right. Don't worry about miscalculation, a pivot table is a way to help you read your data, not alter them.

oh and if your spreadsheet is linked to a database, every time when you open this spreadsheet, it will ask you if you want to update your spreadsheet to match the database. if you are manually entering data, just go to the tab that contains the pivot table, right click on the first header, and refresh the pivot table. If you want to do calculation, you can copy the pivot table and paste data on the same sheet or to a different sheet for advance calculation such as calculate a value based on criterias coming from other tabs or spreadsheets.

Thank you. I was so busy thinking how I can use match and index or try advanced filters that I didn't even think of Pivot table. This helps a lot.
