Linking a workbook to external data from another excel workbook

    Morning all,

I have a few individual workbooks now which i have linked to 2 master info workbooks to enable quick and easy data availability via the Data, Get External Data, From Other Sources, Excel Files. These are set to refresh the data pulled in from these master files each time the workbook is opened.

    However

If someone is in either of the Master Info files doing maintenance or developments, when opening the workbook which links to the masters, excel will also open the Masters and because they are large workbooks it can take a good few minutes depending on PC age, which is very frustrating.

Is there anyway to disable this from happening??

    Many Thanks

    Simon

May the this worth or not but my suggestion is whenever the file is used for Maintenance or Developments just move the file to some other location (Instead of the Original Path) and do the maintenance and once the file is ready then restore it in the same path from where it has been moved.

So Save it in a different location do the updates then re-save over the original thus replacing it,

That sounds like an ok work around but turning this annoying excel process off would be preferred, there must be a little check box somewhere that tells it to do this?

    Thanks for the idea
