    displaying fractiions

Hi, The Insert, Symbols in Excel 2010 only have ½, ¼, ¾ for displaying fractions, which is the way I would like to present my data. Is there a way to create or modify numbers to obtain more fractions e.g. 2/3 or 4/5 etc. I only need the fractions for display purposes only, I know they cannot be used in calculations. Thanks

    Format the cells as Fractions.
Fractions, in fact, may used in calculation providing the cell value is a true numeric.

By formatting the cell value as fractions, if you enter, say, 3/16, it will display as 3/16 and will be a true number you can use in calculations.
    No need to insert symbols.

Thanks for the reply, however you didn't answer my question...I don't want to display fractions as 3/16 as entered. I want to display e.g. ½, ¼, ¾. This is not for calculation only display purposes.

You can enter them into cells formatted as text, and then manually edit to superscript the number preceding the slash and subscript the one following. That's as close as you'll get, short of designing your own font.

I do not remember if 2003 has it, but your looking for: Palatino Linotype.

Select Insert on the Task bar
    Select Symbol
When the pop-up window appears, in the input box next to Font: scroll down to the Palatino Linotype (If you have it)
The font type offers you the following in the subscript font type:

    1/3, 2/3, 1/5, 2/5, 3/5, 4/5, 1/6, 5/6, 1/8, 3/8, 5/8, 7/8

It also offers a 1/ where you get to add what ever number you please, so you can have 1/22, 1/55, etc.

It won't do everything, but should save you some time.

    Re: displaying fractiions

Perhaps a bit more explanation would help.

The Palatino Linotype font has the above fractions already "pre built", you need only select the fraction and click insert.

If you need to "roll your own" there are two sets of numbers, one superscript the other subscript and with the slash symbol
you can create any fraction you would like.

There is a pre built "1/" where you need only add the denominator to finish the fraction.

You may also want to look at the font "MS Reference Specialty", it also offers several "pre built" fractions, but does not offer you the ability to create your own.
