Advanced Filtering Question

I've been put in charge of a bill project at work that involves an excel database with other 7000 customers. However, the database I have to check it against has an extra 1200 or so customers that do not need to be included.

I considered sorting the rows by account number and just matching it up, but that is still 1200 rows worth of deletion.

Is there a way to have Excel compare columns A and B and automatically delete any rows where the Account Number does not appear in both columns? I'll try and elaborate visually below.
Column 1 Column 2
Row 1 12345 12345
Row 2 23456 23456
Row 3 45678

In the above example Column B has the extra number 45678, since it does not appear in Column A, I want the data in Row 3, Column 2 to be deleted and the cells to move up.

Essentially the desired end result is two identical columns with the non-identical data removed.

Thanks in advance, I hope my question was clear.

Re: Advanced Filtering Question

hi and welcome to the forum

There are probably a number of different ways to do what you want, using formulas or VBA.

It would be easier to offer suggestions though if you could upload a small sample of what you are working with (no sensitive data), as well as what your expected outcome would be

To attach a file to your post,
click advanced (next to quick post),
scroll down until you see "manage file",
click that and select "add files" (top right corner).
click "select files" find your file, click "open" click "upload" click 'done" bottom right. click "submit reply"

Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window.
You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools

Re: Advanced Filtering Question

As you can see in the attached file, there are some excess account numbers in Column B, attached to them in Column C is the Due Date of said accounts.

I need a way to take the list from Column A and have it line up with Column B.

In this instance, that would mean the removal of Cells B4/C4, B6/C6 and B7/C7.

What I'm looking for is a way to automate this with excel, as I have over 7000 accounts in Column A and 8200 in Column B.

Once Column A and B match, then I will take the Data from Column C and import it into the workbook that Column A originated in.

I am also open to other ideas for how to sort and filter this data.

Thanks!
Josh
