    Format cell when value changes

Re. excel 2010 I'm sure there must be an easy way to do this. I would like to colour a cell whenever it's value is changed. The cell could be empty, have text or numbers. I would like it highlighted by changing colour whenever any change is made. I've looked through conditional formatting but can't find a condition to cover any change

    Nope

the only way to do this is with a sheet specific macro.

right click on the sheet name at the bottom of excel and select "View Code"

paste this into the sheet that appears and close it

save your file as a macro enabled workbook and reopen it.

make changes and see what happens.

if you want other formats then select record a macro, select a cell and format it anyway you want.

    stop the recorder

select run macro and select edit.

copy the code into my macro as above.

    Enjoy.

Nice Marco. Another way to do it would to be to copy the data to a different sheet, row, or column and then use conditional formatting to change the color if they are different.

Hi Mehemecik, thank you for your answer it is much appreciated. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work exactly right, what happens is when I change the value of a cell then exit that cell (by pressing enter) the cell below the changed one is coloured instead of the original

Target and Active cells are not the same. Target is the one whose change triggered the macro; active, that which is selected by the enter/tab key
