    Recalculation not being Global

I have users who swear that when they have workbook A open, recalculation is Automatic. They unload A and load workbook B and recalculation is Manual. Then if they unload and reload A they are back in automatic calc mode. These are NOT .xlsm files, just .xlsx so there can't be any VBA coding getting in the way. Are they just wrong?

if you set calculation to manual and save everytime you open that work book it stays as manual unless there is already a workbook open in the same instance and it will take that setting instead it also works the other way. if a workbook is auto and you open one set as manual in the same instance it becomes auto. however opened individually they retain their settings
