Question How do I open a workbook/file/whatever in a window separate from an already opened file?

In the 2003 version of MicroCr*p Office, when I open a new Excel workbook, it opens by itself. In 2010 a new window opens within another workbook and I can't figure out how to move it out to the desktop by itself. Do I have to work on another laptop with 2003 to make this idiot 'improvement' disappear?

A few ways that I get around this is:

    1) File --> New Then open the file
    2) Right click the Excel icon on the bar at the bottom of the screen and select a new window.

Hi and welcome to the forum

Lack of knowledge in something doesnt make it an "idiot 'improvement". Just because I dont know how to use all the functions on my new smart phone, doesnt mean that Samsung has made "dumb improvement", it just means I have not done enough research or spent enough time to get to know how to use it properly.

There are any number of ways to get a shortcut (if thats what you want) to your file on the desktop (go into windows explorer and drag a shortcut to teh desktop - the same way you would to with ANY file), or if you want to simply save the file to the D/T, you could use the save as method.

Whichever method you use, when you open the file next time, it will be opened as another workbook, the same as any other excel file would be

hope that helps and remember...google is our friend
