    Dependant data validation with dependant default value

    Dear all,

    I have created a spreadsheet with multiple dependant data validations. For example;

    If I select ‘Asset’ in dropdown list 1, then the options in dropdown list 2 are restricted to ‘Fixed Assets’ and ‘Current Assets’. If I select ‘Fixed Assets’ in dropdown list 2, then my options for dropdown list 3 are restricted to ‘Tangible Fixed Assets’, ‘Intangible Fixed Assets’ and ‘Investments’ and so on. In total I have 7 dependant data validation lists.

    What I’m after is a way of defaulting subsequent options if I change a previous answer. For example, if I now change the value within dropdown list 1 from ‘Asset’ to ‘Liability’, I want all of the subsequent answers (as per example above) to revert to a default state, preferably a blank cell.

    Does anybody know how I would achieve this? Research online has told me that some VBA script is probably needed, but being excel illiterate, I wouldn’t know where to start.

    I can provide the spreadsheet in question on request.

    Please help!!!

    Many thanks

    hi JamesMeek, welcome to the forum. i think Jerry did a good one here:

    if you have trouble with it, attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to make it clear what is needed. Include BEFORE/AFTER sheets if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Remember to desensitize the data.
