Conditional Formatting Multiple Values and Multiple Strings.

Dear Gurus, does conditional formatting work for multiple values or is it strictly for a single value? If possible for multiple, how do I set it to give a cell a blue fill if there is a string of characters (any string, for example, John, Mary, Christian, etc...) and a green fill if it's blank. Thanks in advance. . Cheers!

Re: Conditional Formatting Multiple Values and Multiple Strings.

Any one have an answer to this?

I have list of 61 text items in a column on a spread sheet called Data

In another sheet, Week 7, I have set up multiple cells to populate from the list by data validation (all working fine)

These 61 text items will have 1 of 6 colors associated with them selected from the drop down list.

I have successfully setup Conditional Formatting with 6 different, using New Formatting Rules>Classic>Format only cells that contain>Specific text>containing> & this is where my problem is ... I've only been able to put in the text from one cell Not multiple Cells.

So I could make 61 Conditional Formatting Rules for each item in the list but that seems like a lot of work

Am I using the wrong drop down selection in the Conditional Formatting - New Formatting Rule dialog box? Should it be "Use a formula to determine which cells to format" instead?

    Hi iandcph,

It is possible, but you didn't say what you wanted to do!

Where is the condition you want to measure? Is it Col G?

Which cells do you want shaded? The whole row, or just one column (or a few columns).

Note: If you set up Conditional Formatting for blank cells, any shading you have used will be overwritten.

    Regards,

    DAVID
