Barcode scanner to track sales at till

Hi I would like to add barcodes to our product in the Help for Heroes shop.

I was hoping to simply print off a barcode for each SKU and scan the item at the till when it sells. Is excel able to receive information direct from a hand held barcode scanner? I would then like excel to add up each SKU at the end of the day to produce a report and picking list for the store, how would I go about doing this?

At the early stages at the moment...

    Many thanks

    Julian

    Hi
a barcode scanner works just like a keyboard. It kind of types whatever it reads at the cursor and doesn't really care what app you are using. To print off barcodes, you can use a free font on the net called "free 3 of 9", google it. To set up your barcodes you simply need an asterisk before and after your data and format the cell with the barcode font. have fun.

Thanks Neil, then I shall make a start.

I'm sure theres going to be a lot more to it than that, but at least I know it's possible - so I shall begin!!!
