Non-existent file tries to open upon startup

    I have Excel 2007

Every time I start up excel whether it's opening a new spreadsheet or an existing one it tries to open one that I had deleted a while ago. I have nothing in my xlstartup files and I have thoroughly searched all files around it, before it, after it, and all in between. I went to Excel Options>Advanced>General and there is nothing in the field where it says "At startup open all files in:"

It seems to be trying to open the file from my desktop.

Can someone help me find where it's trying to open this file?

    guster09,

If you have a PERSONAL.XLSB file where you store macros, then check the macro code that may be in it.

Look in Microsoft Excel Objects, the Sheets, and the ThisWorkbook, and, Modules.

Re: Non-existent file tries to open upon startup

I searched and did not find any Personal.xlsb files. I didn't have any code entered on any of the sheets and workbook and there aren't any modules. I created one and made sure there wasn't any code in it then deleted it. I checked in my options that all objects are visible and didn't find anything. I wasn't entirely sure what you meant by "Look in Microsoft Objects" so the best I did was make sure all objects were visible in excel options.

I created another workbook titled the same as what it tries to open and put it on my desk top so it will now open that workbook every time. I then recorded a macro and put it in the personal file area so it would come up in VBA. I checked and nothing was there besides the macro I had just recorded.

After saving over the old file with the same name it still pulls up. I don't know if it's a macro that's pulling it up. I think it may be a setting I may have accidentally changed in Microsoft Excel itself.

What's the extension of the filename it's trying to open?
Entia non sunt multiplicanda sine necessitate

What happens if you just start Excel from the start menu?

I open Excel from my start menu every time. I created a shortcut and opened excel and still have the same problem. The file that it keeps opening is a 97-2003 excel file. I don't know if that makes a difference.

Unrelated to your problem, it's not an Excel 2003 file with that extension. That format started with Excel 2007.

Thanks for your help, by the way. It looks like it's still giving me the same problems, though.
