Excel Files Opening Slowly

I've recently been having problems with load times when opening up existing saved excel spreadsheets. The saved files take around 7-8 seconds to open, every single time, however when opening up excel by itself, the application starts up within a seconds notice. Most of the saved files are only a few bytes in size and use to open quickly. There is no memory or processing problems here (checked task manager) as other larger applications and files open quickly.

The only thing I can think of, that may have changed some setting within excel, is the fact that I installed PowerPoint 2010 recently. I am using Microsoft Word 2003 and Excel 2003. Microsoft word also experiences the SAME issue. Opens quickly by itself until I actually click on a file that is saved. It has the exact same 7-8 second waiting period before it opens.

I open and close many saved excel spreadsheets a day, so this can get a bit irritating after awhile. ;-)

You may have a mess of temporary files created by Excel and Word. If you don't have it, download Ccleaner from www.piriform.com (free version) and run it with default settings. It might help.
